  Unit 4 what can you do?

  Good morning, dear judges,I’m the candidate NO.6 applying for the primary school English teacher. Today my topic is “At the farm”.It is my great honor to be here to present my lesson. In order to make it much clear, I’ll express my thoughts in the following four aspects, which are teaching background, teaching and learning method, teaching procedure and teaching reflection. Now I’ll present them just one by one.

  The first part of my presentation is teaching background. This lesson “what can you do” is the read and write part of unit 4, book 2 in grade 4, PEP. It mainly talks about people’s abilities. After learning this class,Student can ask others’ abilities in their daily life.

  The students in grade 4 are very active whose attention can be distracted easily. So in this lesson, I’ll present several colorful pictures on food in my teaching process, aiming to attract the students’ attention. In addition, the students in grade 4 have a strong desire to show off themselves. Therefore I’ll design several tasks to motivate themselves. What’s more ,students have grasped some basic English vocabularies of food , which lay a good foundation for this class.

  After learning the analysis of students, I set up the following three objectives.

  First of all, knowledge and skill objectives:

  1. 80% students can grasp the phrases describing some activities such as do kongfu, play ping-pong and so on .

  2.Students will understand the sentence patterns: what can you do ? I can XXX.

  Next, process and method objectives:

  Students can improve their ability of introducing their abilities in their daily life through cooperation.

  Last, emotion, attitude and value objectives:

  All the students will cultivate the awareness of loving labour and loving life more .

  Based on the teaching syllabus, I list the teaching key points and difficult points as follow:

  First are the key points:

  1. 80% students grasp the phrases describing some activities such as do kongfu, play ping-pong and so on .

  2.Students will understand the sentence patterns: They are....

  Second are the difficult points:

  1. Students can improve their ability of introducing their abilities in their daily life through cooperation.

  As we all known that, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help Ss develop their ability of learning. For achieving this goal, I will mainly adopt task-based method combined with audio-lingual method in this lesson. Attracting students’ attention to the class as well as arousing their enthusiasm of learning English. I’ll design some activities, role-playing in my practice part and making a survey about the food for meals in consolidation part. Students will accomplish these activities through self-learning.

  English class of elementary school need more teaching aids to increase Ss’ interests. In today’s class, I will adopt pictures, radio tapes, blackboard to assist language teaching.

  Now I will present my teaching plan step by step. The whole teaching procedure includes 6 steps: Step 1: Lead-in, Step 2, Presentation, Step 3: Practice, Step 4: Consolidation, Step 5: Summary,Step 6:Homework.

  Teaching procedure:

  Step 1 lead-in

  A picture of a robot will be presented. Then I will say : Today we have a new friend, who is he? Do you know? Then I’ll lead the students to today’s topic ----what can you do ?

  Step 2 pre-reading

  Firstly , I will point at the picture of the robot and ask students what can robots do ? Students can have a general concept of the robot by discussing.

  Step 4 while-reading

  In this step, I design the following task.

  Task 1-skimming

  Firstly, The students will be divided into six groups.Students will do a fast reading ,they will get the main idea of the passage and to find out the question: What is the name of the robot? They will share their ideas within their own groups.

  The purpose of this task is to get the general information of the passage.

  Task 2-scanning

  In order to get brief introduction of the passage ,Secondly, the students will do an exercise-tick or cross ,the questions are the followings:

  1.he can speak English .

  2.He can play basketball.

  3.He can’t play ping-pong.

  Task3-intensive reading

  Here I will stress the sentence patterns –what can you do ,I can XXXX.I will write the target sentences on the blackboard .Students will read the sentence loudly.

  Setp 4 post-reading

  In this step ,students will do s survey about their what they can do in daily life . During that process, I’ll walk around the whole class and give them guidance timely. After that, each group will choose a representative to perform it on the platform. The remaining students are serving as the judges. The best group will gain a piece of bear sticker. The less performed groups will also be encouraged and inspired.

  Step 5 Summary:

  Students summarize the key vocabulary and sentence patterns they have learned in this lesson. Teacher makes supplements and emphasizes that All the students will have a good awareness of doing housework at homeand love life more .

  This checks the students’ weak points and increases their awareness of loving vegetables.

  Step 6 Homework:

  Students are encouraged to make a survey about the things their friendscan do at home. They are supposed to share them next class.

  Giving open homework here is to guide the students to increase their awareness of loving food.

  We have just finished the third part of my presentation, namely teaching plan. Then let’s come to the last part----teaching reflection.

  According to the new curriculum standard, this class adopts formative assessment and various subjects of evaluation, like teacher’s assessment and mutual rating to create an active class atmosphere.This class also shows a lot of pictures of robots to the students, attracting the students’ attention to today’s topic “food”. Lastly, based on the theory of “learning by acting”, the students can deepen their impression of how to express their abilities through imitating, improving their ability of self-learning.
