Section B 2a-3c
王节琴
Step 1: Lead-in
Good morning, boys and girls, how are you doing today? That’s great. I’ m doing well too. So are you ready for our class?
First let’s enjoy a video together. Please look at the screen. Let’s begin. (Pause for a few seconds) Ok, so much for the video. Do you know where the video are recorded? Can anyone tell me? Yes, it is places from Malaysia, a country in the south east China. Look at the screen, it is a map of Malaysia. Malaysia includes some islands. Right? Yes. Today, we will show some pictures about one of its islands, named Penang. Do you Know Penang. What can you see from these pictures? Do you think it is beautiful? Mary? Oh, you say it has amazing sceneries, and you want to take vacation there. Oh, Susan said she likes the seas and beaches there. I also think it is a very good place for us to spend our vacation.
Step 2: Pre-reading
Actually, Jane has went there and took vacation in Penang. And she also wrote diaries about his vacation there. Do you want to know what did she write in her diaries? Before we read Jane’s vacation dairies. Please look at the two pictures. Can you guess where did Jane go in Penang on Monday and Tuesday? And did Jane have a good time on Monday and Tuesday? Any volunteers, who wants to have a try? Great, Peter. (Pause for a few seconds.) Oh, you think she went to the beaches on Monday and went to the mountains on Tuesday. And she had a very good time in both of the two places. Do you agree with Peter? Most of you do agree. En, Any different opinion?Yes, Tom. So you think the author may have some different experiences from the two places. (Suggestions: the number of guesses can be increased or decreased according to the testing time)
Step 3: While-reading
Now we have two completely different guesses, which one is right? Let’s read the passage very quickly to find out the answer to these two questions. Now begin.Ok, time is up. Who can tell me the correct answers? Yes, the boy sitting by the window. Yeah, you got it. Jane went to the beaches on Monday and she enjoyed there. On Wednesday she went to Penang Hill and had a very different experience there. But did Jane do other things on Monday and Tuesday? Did she like it, and why or why not? What now I want you to read the passage carefully again and find out the answers to those questions. (Yes, you can take some notes. That’s it.) Ok, have you finished your reading? Who can answer my first question? Good, Lily. Jane went to the beach, tried paragliding, had Malaysia yellow noodles and rode bicycle to Georgetown. She like the all. Because the paragliding made her exciting, noodles were delicious and she can see many old buildings in Georgetown. Excellent. You got all the points. Do you know what does paragliding mean? Ok, look at this picture, people are having paragliding. Read after me, paragliding, and paragliding. What about Tuesday? Ok, Jerry, On Tuesday, she went to Penang Hill, but it was terrible because the weather was really bad. Jane and her father had one bowl of rice and some fish. It tasted great because they were hungry. You are right? But why they just took one bowl of rice and some fish? Great, Sally. That is it. Because they did not bring enough money. So we should remember to take enough money on our vacation, otherwise we may suffer from starvation. Ok, next, we will read the diaries for the third time. After reading, you are required to finish the dialogue in 2d according to the diaries. Then I will ask some of you to act out the dialogue. Now begin. Time is up. Any volunteers? Oh, you are so active. Ok, you two, please. (Pause for a few seconds.) Very impressive. Please go back to your seats.
Step 4: Post-reading
Well, class. You have learnt this passage really well. I am so proud of you. Now let’s do something more difficult and more interesting. You can work in groups of four. In your group, each of you should share one of your vacation experience with your group member about where you went, what you did, what you eat, whether you liked it and why. After sharing, you should work together to write a report. Some of you will be chosen to share in the front. Are you clear? Go ahead.(教师下场巡视) Ok, time is up. Who wants to come here? Yes, yourgroup, please. (Pause for a few seconds) Let’s give this group big hands. (Pause for a few seconds) Thank you very much. Please go back to your seat. So, do you like their performance? Yes, I think they have done a wonderful job. You are really good at making reports.
Step 5:Summary
Times flies really quickly. Let’s have a quick review of what we learnt today. John? Yes, “we learned Jane’s two-day vacation in Penang, Malaysia. Anything else? Yes, Jim. Yeah, we also learnt some expressions to describe our past experiences. And when we go out to have a vacation, it is necessary to make full preparation, and otherwise, we will have some unexpected difficulties.
Step 6: Homework
So today’s homework for you. After school you can answer the question in 3b to make notes about a vacation you took, then use the notes to write a travel diary like Jane’s. We will share it in the next class. OK, So much for today. Good bye, boys and girls.
